Markdown in, markdown out
Every Antescript page is markdown underneath, so your notes are never stuck here. Bring in files, folders and Obsidian vaults; take a page or the whole workspace out whenever you like.
The dialect
GitHub-flavoured markdown, with the conventions GitHub and Obsidian already render, so a page that leaves Antescript reads the same there. One dialect serves everything: exports, imports, and what agents read and write through the API.
- Text, headings, lists, quotes, code, links
- GitHub-flavoured markdown, as written anywhere.
- Checklists
- [ ]and- [x]- Tables
- Pipe tables.
- Callouts
> [!NOTE],[!TIP],[!IMPORTANT],[!WARNING]or[!CAUTION]at the head of a quote.- Toggles
<details><summary>…</summary>…</details>- Images and files
and[name](…), pointing at the file in the export.- Links to pages, mentions
- A link to the page: in an export, to its .md file. A link to a page comes back in as a mention.
- Title, icon and dates
- Front matter:
title,icon,created,updated. - Anything else
<!-- antescript:block {…} -->, a comment carrying the block, which import brings back as it was.
--- title: "Launch plan" updated: 2026-09-29T16:05:00.000Z --- ## Open questions - [x] Pick the name - [ ] Pick the date > [!WARNING] > The date moves if the review slips. <details> <summary>What we ruled out</summary> A launch on a Friday. </details>
Two things never go into the markdown: comments, which live beside a page rather than in it, and text and background colours, which markdown has no way to write.
Take notes out
- A page. Export markdown, above the page, downloads it as a
.mdfile with its title and dates. - The workspace. The menu beside Pages exports it as one zip. Each page is a
.mdfile named from its title, with a folder of the same name for the pages under it; the images and files are in a folder of their own, and links between pages are relative, so they work where the zip is unpacked. - And back. The zip imports back the same, on every plan. No plan limit ever blocks an export.
Bring notes in
- Import at the foot of the sidebar takes markdown files, a folder or a zip. Folders become a page tree, and a folder’s
index.mdorREADME.mdbecomes the folder’s own page. - Images and attachments come along, and markdown links between the files keep working. A title and icon in front matter are kept, the icon when it’s one emoji.
- On a page, Import markdown above it adds a file’s content to the end of that page.
- On Free an import makes one page; a folder, several files or a zip needs Starter. An export, from Notion or from Antescript, imports on any plan.
Obsidian vaults and folders of notes
An Obsidian vault is a folder of markdown files, and it comes in as it is: pick the folder, or a zip of it. Its folders become pages with the notes under them, its attachments come along, and hidden files and folders, Obsidian’s own settings among them, are left out. Callouts written the way GitHub writes them stay callouts, and exported again, the pages read the same in Obsidian. A vault is a folder, so on Free it comes in a file at a time; Starter takes it whole.
Coming from Notion instead? Its export imports on any plan.
For agents
Agents read and write the same dialect through the API and the MCP server: a page comes back as this markdown, and markdown an agent writes becomes blocks, callouts and toggles included. Connect an agent.
